Tuesday Techie Traveller: Duolingo

The most fun and easy way to learn a language – seriously! I have used the Duolingo application for both German and Spanish. The app is entirely free, and if you plan to travel to a country where you don’t speak the language, it’s a great way to learn and practise as much or as little as you want before you go.

Unlike a book or more traditional method, each Duolingo lesson includes reading, speaking, listening, matching and translation games. The modules are short and introduce new vocabulary with each round, but also include plenty of repetition. You can test yourself along the way and even compete with other users. For me, this has been the most fun and effective way to achieve some language knowledge quickly and without feeling like work. You can do one lesson per day or twenty, and they are packaged into modules to tailor it to your needs and time availability. The app includes 23 different language options. Check it out today, perfect whether you are travelling to Sweden or Brazil!
