Lunenberger Heide is a natural lowland area in Lower Saxony in Germany, almost entirely covered in fields of Heather, a flowering plant which is resistant to grazing animals. Nowadays, a North German breed of sheep munch happily on other plants, creating a landscape which blooms all-over purple in the spring. If you ever wanted to live in a purple-tinted world, this is what it might look like. . .
It’s a great short getaway for the weekend, and a completely unique landscape to see.
