FAQ’s

    1. Who are you?
      • I’m Heather, and I’m Canadian. However, I have been living outside Canada for about 6 years, studying, working, and travelling around the world. No matter where I go, I manage to fit in my routine run in my new surroundings, and over time it has become my favourite way of seeing a city. I can’t think of a better way to start the day in a new place – with fresh air and a fresh perspective on the world.
    2. What will I find on Sneakers and a Suitcase?
      • Well, I will start with what you WON’T find. . . this is not a blog of die-hard marathoners. Nor is it a health and fitness website. It’s written by a girl who loves to travel, and also so happens to love running. I wholeheartedly believe these two can go hand-in-hand. So this blog is for the casual runner – who wants to jog by some famous landmarks, stay reasonably fit while travelling, but also enjoy the finer things at the same time. Life is meant for enjoyment, after all 😊
    3. Do you show running routes?
      • I show the running route(s) which I took around town, and a few ideas for other options. The idea is mainly to show that running can really be done anywhere and in any setting, you just have to work at it a bit sometimes!
    4. What about if I’m staying in a different part of town?
      • I’ve got some tips for finding running routes in cities, so by all means forge your own way and custom-design a route for you! The route I show is just an idea of a 5-7 km route which can be done.
    5. What about when the weather is bad?
      • Guess what – life has bad weather. I have some tips on running in cold weather as well as ideas for how to use your hotel for fitness if it’s really inclement outside. But in general, I don’t let low temperatures or a little drizzly rain stop me!
    6. How long have you been running?
      • I started jogging at age 16 – so 15 years ago and counting!
    7. I’m a runner when I’m at home, but can’t manage to get myself to do it on vacation. How can I start?
      • Start but laying out your jogging clothes the night before by your bed. It’s an obvious reminder. And then, just go for 5-10 minutes if that’s all you can manage. The first few times may feel like torture but it really is a great way to see your new surroundings. Slowly, over time, you just might like it 🙂
    8. What else is on the blog?
      • I love good food, and I really don’t like spending money on bad food. So you will find my restaurant recommendations, with listings of “Fit Food” (places you can find something healthy) and “Detox to Retox” (places to indulge!)
      • I also love good art. So you will find some museum and gallery recommendations, in addition to the more “standard” sites to see.
      • Finally, I love good chocolate. I find it in every city, without fail. I will tell you exactly where J
